Unleash your inner artist and discover the magic of glass blowing with our beginner-friendly class! In this hands-on experience, you will learn the fundamental techniques of glass flameworking and create multiple hand-blown shot glasses, perfect for entertaining guests or adding a touch of elegance to your home bar.

Under the guidance of instructor Michael Dickinson, you will dive into the ancient art of shaping molten glass using a combination of traditional tools and modern techniques. With each new creation, you will gain a deeper appreciation for the beauty and versatility of glass, and the thrill of turning a hot, fluid material into a stunning work of art.

This class is designed for those with no prior experience, making it an ideal opportunity to try something new, challenge yourself, and have fun while doing it. Includes:

What you'll get

After undergoing the process of being annealed in our kiln and meticulously cut and polished, students can expect to bring home a set of beautifully crafted shot glasses ranging from three to eight pieces, the following week.
 

What to bring

In order to ensure their safety and protect them from potential harm, it is imperative that students adhere to the dress code policy of wearing closed-toe shoes, having long hair securely tied back, sporting non-baggy sleeves, and dressing in natural fiber clothing during glass or flame related activities.

Logistics

Class fee includes glass and annealing in our kiln. All of the tools will be provided for use during the duration of the class. The class format will begin with safety instructions followed by instructor demonstration of projects before students will be able to begin working at their own pace. For longer day-long classes, a 30-minute lunch break will be scheduled into the day. Please arrive 15 minutes before class to check-in.

Additional information

Studio classes are offered year-round at Dickinson Glass Studio and Showroom, located in picturesque Sebastopol. We offer classes in a variety of techniques and for all skill levels in a comfortable setting with small class sizes. We are passionate about glass, serious about play, and dedicated to providing education encompassing an ancient art form.

Our studio is equipped with six Glass Torch Technologies (GTT) torches utilizing propane and oxygen, two Paragon kilns, an array of thoughtfully designed hand tools, and an assortment of borosilicate glass.

Owner and craftsman, Michael Dickinson, has been a faculty member at both The Crucible and Bay Area Glass Institute, reaching over 1,000 students ranging in age from 12 to 65+. He has worked with organizations for team-builds including Google, Facebook, Twitter, Square, Salesforce, and has hosted live demonstrations for Stanford University, Bay Area Glass Institute, and Maker Faire, among other organizations.
