Our Mother’s Day Glass Flowers Workshop is designed for beginners, offering a welcoming introduction to the art of sculpting with hot glass. Whether you bring your mom, grandmother, aunt, or a special friend, this class provides a unique opportunity to bond while exploring the fascinating world of glass flameworking.

Led by artist Michael Dickinson, this three-hour workshop will introduce you to the fundamentals of glass flameworking using borosilicate glass — a strong and versatile material ideal for sculpting delicate, intricate flowers. Through step-by-step guidance, you’ll learn essential techniques such as melting, shaping, and applying color, ensuring a safe and engaging experience for all participants.

No prior experience is needed — just a willingness to explore and create! By the end of the class, you'll leave with your own handcrafted glass flowers and a truly special Mother’s Day memory to cherish.

Logistics: 

Class fee includes glass and annealing in our kiln. After undergoing the process of being annealed in our kiln and meticulously cut and polished, students can expect to bring home a set of beautifully crafted shot glasses ranging from three to eight pieces, the following week.
  All of the tools will be provided for use during the duration of the class. The class format will begin with safety instructions followed by instructor demonstration of projects before students will be able to begin working at their own pace. For longer day-long classes, a 30-minute lunch break will be scheduled into the day. Please arrive 15 minutes before class to check-in.

Studio classes are offered year-round at Dickinson Glass Studio and Showroom, located in picturesque Sonoma County. We offer classes in a variety of techniques and for all skill levels in a comfortable setting with small class sizes. We are passionate about glass, serious about play, and dedicated to providing education encompassing an ancient art form.

Our studio is equipped with Glass Torch Technologies (GTT) torches utilizing propane and oxygen, two Paragon kilns, an array of thoughtfully designed hand tools, and an assortment of borosilicate glass.

Owner and craftsman, Michael Dickinson, has been a faculty member at both The Crucible and Bay Area Glass Institute, reaching over 1,000 students ranging in age from 12 to 65+. He has worked with organizations for team-builds including Google, Facebook, Twitter, Square, Salesforce, and has hosted live demonstrations for Nissan, Stanford University, Bay Area Glass Institute, and Maker Faire, Association of Clay and Glass, among other organizations.
